Today I had the opportunity to attend the Wilson Building Inauguration Open House which followed the Swearing-In Ceremony of the newly elected DC Councilmembers at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. It was an exciting experience to be inside the Wilson Building during this most interesting transition of power. While each member shared lofty and aspirational goals for the Council’s upcoming legislative calendar, the foreboding presence of the incoming Federal administration and Congress was never far from the room. During an interview with NBC4’s Tom Sherwood today, Ward 6 Councilman Charles Allen stated, “We’ve always had President Obama as a backstop. We don’t have that anymore.”
My friend and I got to visit the offices of three Councilmembers: Our own CM Brandon Todd of Ward 4, Ward 7 Councilmember Vincent Gray and At-Large Councilmember Robert White. The conversation was cordial and it was nice to see CM Todd, Chief of Staff Sheryl Newman and Director of Constituent Services Jackson Carnes invigorated and ready to tackle the many challenges that await the city in 2017.
CM Todd shared this new “Ward4Proud” pin with all residents who attended the Open House. Our family looks forward to working with his office to move Shepherd Elementary School and the entire Ward 4 community forward in the coming years.
