DC Youth Orchestra Program Returns To Takoma

Beth Freeborn, the president of the Takoma Education Campus PTO emailed me late last week with this exciting news!  Check it out and click the link to learn more about this terrific program which is returns to its roots here in #Ward4.

I am excited to announce that our neighborhood DC public school, Takoma Education Campus (TEC), will partner with the DC Youth Orchestra Program (DCYOP) starting this month! DCYOP is Washington DC’s premier youth orchestra program, which has been in existence for nearly 60 years. TEC will host DCYOP’s Saturday program, which provides quality music instruction to beginning students on a variety of orchestral instruments, and provides 10 ensembles and orchestras for beginning, intermediate, and advanced students ages 4.5 to 18.

Like TEC, DCYOP believes in the power of music and arts education to change lives. Over time, DCYOP will help TEC build a strong orchestra program and further strengthen the school’s ability to deliver excellent arts integration instruction. TEC will support DCYOP with a great space that gives them flexibility to deliver programming that works best for students and will allow them to grow. A number of families in Takoma, DC families are already part of DCYOP’s Saturday program, and our goal is to help many more local families participate.

DCYOP’s Saturday music program is open to ANY student in the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area. Tuition for Saturday music lessons is on a sliding income-based scale, and is as low as $25 per semester, including the free use of an instrument for students who qualify. Please go to www.dcyop.org to get more information and enroll for the Fall 2019 semester.
