Although Mayor Bowser has inserted $10 million in her FY 2018 budget to rebuild the Shepherd Elementary School gymnasium and combine it with a DPR operated recreation center, many of us know that the budget process is an arduous one. Funding is never secured until the ink on the budget is dry. One Wednesday, three intrepid fifth grade students from the school were not taking any chances. With support from their families and school leaders, they made their way down to the Wilson Building to state their testimony in support of keeping the funding to build this needed facility.

Councilmembers Todd and Cheh were obviously impressed by what they heard. If students like these represent the future of the District, then our city is in good hands. Excellent work, gentlemen!
