The following is a community message from ANC 4A03 Commissioner Steve Whatley regarding a design review meeting for a new apartment building on the Walter Reed campus.
The Parks at Walter Reed (TPWR) development team has kicked off the design process for the next multifamily project on the campus. Building QRS will be a 4-5 story multifamily building with frontage on Dahlia Street and Georgia Avenue. As part of the public outreach process, I will be hosting two community design meetings in the coming weeks, ahead of ANC and CAC presentations in November and December. Construction on this building is slated to begin in Q1 2022.
These community design meetings are part of the Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB) review process. HPRB publishes guidelines about new construction in historic districts, which you can view here: https://bit.ly/33OBFEl. HPRB evaluates new construction projects based on the following criteria: setbacks, height, orientation, materials, scale, color, proportion, roof shape, rhythm, details & ornamentation, massing, and landscape features. The purpose of these meetings will be to collect and incorporate community feedback based on these criteria, as defined by HPRB.
Please join us for an introductory presentation of the concept design for your input and feedback on the key building design elements.
Date: Wednesday, October 14th
Time: 7PM – 8:30PM
Meeting ID: 959 6714 8523
+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)
You can view the location of Building QRS on the master plan here: https://bit.ly/3ckgNJ1
In addition, I will be hosting a second community design presentation on October 28th. The Zoom information for the second meeting is the same information above. All information is also available on the TPWR website: https://theparksdc.
I hope you will be able to attend these virtual meetings to learn more about the project, and provide your thoughts and feedback. Note TPWR will also be presenting the project at upcoming ANC 4A, 4B, and CAC meetings, so there will be many other opportunities to learn about the building in case you cannot join us for the first meeting.
Lastly, please feel free to forward this message to your neighbors. Based on the comments of the community I will be drafting a resolution for consideration by ANC 4A at its November ANC meeting.
